"Gordo" Lottery
Winners Begin Claiming Their
Prizes
Cabinetmakers, fish vendors,
farmers and the retired are
among the list of winners of the
"Gordo Navideño" as more than
¢400 million colones were handed
out by the Junta de Protección
Social de San José (JPS) to the
winners of Sunday nights
Christmas lottery.
No one person won the major
prize of ¢500 million colones
(us$970.800 dollars) on winning
number 40 with series 617, as
the "entero" (entire ticket of
40 portions) was sold in pieces
and to players from all around
the country.
Not many had more than two
portions of the ticket, with the
exception of on Colombian, a
resident of Grecia, who
purchased five portions of the
ticket and claimed his prize of
¢100 million colones.
