Autonomous Assemblies in Bolivia
Rejected
Representatives of Bolivia's
education sector and government
authorities rejected the
autonomous Assemblies organized
by the oligarchy.
According to the secretary of
Bolivia's Urban Education
Workers Confederation (CTEUB),
Porfirio Siles, the position
assumed by the civic committees
and governors who organized the
protests is dictatorial, since
it caused violent acts in some
areas.
Siles said that social
organizations consider that the
demand of the two thirds to
approve all the decisions of the
Constituent Assembly is just a
justification of the opposition
to prolong and make the forum to
fail.
The CTEUB secretary also slammed
the intolerance of the leaders
of those regions who said that
they would not recognize the new
Constitution if it is not
approved by the two thirds,
while predicted that they would
summon a provincial referendum
to strengthen the autonomies.
Siles recalled that the groups
opposed to the government of
President Evo Morales had 20
years to respond to the demands
of the people, and they did not
do it.
Now that they have lost the
control of the State, they try
to hinder the Constituent
Assembly and the process of
change since they affect their
interests, added Siles.
Meanwhile, the vice minister of
Interior, Ruben Gamarra,
informed that the groups
organized by the opposition are
being investigated, as they are
allegedly linked to lootings and
burning of indigenous offices in
the rural towns of Santa Cruz,
east of Bolivia.
Gamarra said that paramilitary
groups assaulted and set fire to
the headquarters of Paiconea
Indigenous Central Office on
Friday.
