Salvadoran Govt Questioned for
Homage to Pinochet
Salvadoran President Antonio
Saca is still questioned Sunday
by local political organizations
and press media because of the
homage offered to deceased
former Chilean dictator Augusto
Pinochet.
Salvadoran newspaper Colatino
showed the denounce made by
National Farabundo Marti
Liberation Front (FMLN) to
legislators from Alianza
Republicana Party (ARENA) and
National Conciliation Party (PCN)
who dedicated a minute of
silence to Pinochet.
Salvador Sanchez Ceren, FMLN
coordinator, urged President
Saca to explain this action to
the Salvadoran people and warned
on possible implications with
the Chilean government.
The Executive calls for peace
and at the same time, gives
homage to human rights
violators, said Ceren,
commenting popular rejection for
the attitude of the legislators.
Such a procedure shows the
conviction to favour impunity on
crimes committed in El Salvador
during the civil war, Ceren
emphazised.
