Ortega to Relax IMF Terms
Nicaraguan President Elect
Daniel Ortega said he will call
the IMF to relax its policy
towards Nicaragua to curve
poverty and hunger.
Ortega -to meet with an IMF top
level mission Tuesday in
Managua- said keeping
macroeconomic balance and sever
poverty that affects 80 percent
the population as condition to
renew the accord.
The IMF mission is led by
Western Division Manager Anoop
Singh, said IMF representative
in Nicaragua, Humberto Arbulu.
Among IMF demands lies freezing
the Social Security Law the
National Assembly approved May
2005, to be enforced in January
and Ortega will assume office
January 10.
Since he won the November 5
presidential race, Ortega
pledged to target poverty and
hunger by creating jobs, respect
to private enterprising, the
market economy and economic
agreements in force.
He also called the business
circles to back the social
programs.
