Two Women Lose Their Lives Crossing Busy Highway
The using of pedestrian overpasses on the country's busiest highway hasn't caught on yet, as many continue the mad dash across speeding traffic on the General Cañas.

Yesterday morning at 5:50am, two ladies, at only 200 metre distance from a pedestrian overpass, just before the bridge over the Rio Segundo, were struck by a vehicle as they cross the busy highway.

Etelvina López Lobo, 30, and Aracelly Vega Rivas, 19, were struck by the Edwin Villalobos, driver of a Honda Civic who told Tránsito officials that he could not avoid them.

Aracelly was spread out in the middle of the highway, while Etelvina was thrown into the gully on the side of the road as Tránsito and Judicial officials investigated the scene of the accident.

José Luis López Rugama, Etelvina's husband, who was with the two women at the time of the accident, said he could not stop his wife and her friend from running across the highway to catch a bus to San José. The women misjudged the distance and speed of the incoming vehicle.
