Nicaragua, Honduras Talk
Integration
Nicaraguan President-Elect
Daniel Ortega is due to meet
with his Honduran counterpart
Manuel Zelaya in this capital s
Presidential Palace Wednesday to
dialog on Central American
integration and other issues. As
part of his regional tour,
Ortega will use the visit to
seek international cooperation,
said Zelaya after returning from
a tour of Spain.
According to official sources,
it is expected that both
statesmen will talk on the
parallel 15 dispute in the
Caribbean Sea.
Since late 1999, Nicaragua has
been in conflict with Honduras
over the signing of a maritime
accord between Honduras and
Colombia that, according to
Nicaraguan arguments, diminishes
130,000 sq km of its continental
maritime platform.
Honduras states that Nicaragua s
limit is the parallel 15;
Nicaragua declares it is 17.
Ortega s agenda also includes a
meeting with Liberal Party s
Executive Central Council
president Patricia Rodas,
personal friend of the
Sandinista leader, authorities
stated.
