Windstar to Explore Costa Rica's
Natural Wonders
The 148-guest Wind Star will
serve as a home away from home
for guests during week-long
eco-adventures in Costa Rica
beginning in December through
March.
Upscale Windstar Cruises will
unwrap Costa Rica's natural
beauty commencing in December,
just in time for the holidays.
The Seattle-based line has
unveiled 15, seven-night cruises
roundtrip out of Puerto Caldera
through March aboard one of its
three motor sailing yachts.
The Wind Star will serve as a
home away from home for guests
who will immerse themselves in a
series of week-long
eco-adventures along the Pacific
coast. A naturalist from Costa
Rica sails on each trip to pass
on local knowledge, from history
and culture to geography and
biodiversity.
"Our Costa Rica itinerary has
proved very popular," said Diane
Moore, Windstar's vice president
of marketing and sales. "We are
one of the only cruise lines
that offers an entire week
exploring the country's
spectacular coastline and we can
visit more small bays and
harbors due to the intimate size
of the ship."
Windstar's elegant motor sailing
yachts - Wind Star, the
148-guest Wind Spirit and the
308-guest Wind Surf - have
recently undergone a
multi-million dollar,
amenity-laden transformation
featuring new Signature Cuisine
menus by acclaimed Chef Joachim
Splichal of L.A.'s Patina Group,
new luxury mattresses and
linens, flatscreen TVs, bath
amenities by L'Occitane, Apple
iPod Nanos and hammocks built
for two on deck.
The week-long Costa Rican
explorations are sure to please
adventure-seeking guests. Ports
include San Juan del Sur,
Nicaragua; Playas del Coco,
Quepos, Marenco and the Curu
Reserve on the Nicoya Peninsula,
a wildlife refuge home to 220
species of birds, capuchin,
spider, white-face and squirrel
monkeys, three-toed sloths,
coati and anteaters.
Land programs run the gamut,
from tranquil trips to the
region's white sand beaches to
zip-line tours soaring high
above the rainforest. Nature
walks, horseback riding, a
rainforest exploration via an
all-terrain vehicle, deep-sea
fishing or cooking classes on a
private reserve are just some of
the perks.
Additionally, the line is known
for its complimentary water
sports activities, each
departing from an aft platform
that lowers into the water for
swimming, sailing, snorkeling,
kayaking, water skiing, ski
tubing and wind surfing.
As nightfall approaches, look
for an atmosphere of casual
elegance. Ties, jackets or
cocktail dresses are not
required.
Throughout the year, the line
cruises to nearly 50 nations in
Europe, the Caribbean and the
Americas.
