113 Will No Longer Be Free In
September
Now that the 2006 white pages
directory - telephone book - is
printed and being distributed,
the el Instituto Costarricense
de Electricidad (ICE) says that
its 113 telephone directory
service will no longer be free
come September.
The Autoridad Regulador de
Servicios Públicos (Aresep)
ordered ICE last year to make
the 113 service free of charge
when it was announced that there
would be no telephone directory
in 2005, following a contract
problem with the Verizon
company, that had been
publishing the directory for
years.
ICE says it has lost some ¢1.140
million colones in revenue and
will send the bill to Verizon as
part of their contract dispute
settlement.
Some 3.6 million calls a month a
received by the 113 service,
generating more than ¢100
million colones in revenue to
the state monopoly on
telecommunications.
The 2006 white pages directory
is being published by ICE's
subsidiary, Radiográfica
Costarricense (Racsa), and
distributed by the Cruz Roja
(Red Cross).
