Mexican Left in for Long Haul
The For the Good of All coalition is preparing for extended peaceful civil resistance to defend democracy and legitimacy of the election results.

The decision was announced Sunday by the alliance runner Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador before thousands of cheering supporters gathered in Mexico City s main square, the Zocalo.

At the same time, candidate Felipe Calderon, from the ruling National Action Party (PAN), expressed confidence that the Electoral Court of the Mexican Judicial Power (TEPJF) will recognize his supposed electoral win this week.

Although he has not been proclaimed the president-elect, Calderon met in central Queretaro state with PAN deputies and senators, and said he will be a dignitary that will respect division of powers in the nation.

Meanwhile, Lopez Obrador ratified they will continue with actions of the civil resistance and keep the camps set across this capital to defend democracy in Mexico.

He reiterated the demand of the vote recount as the alternative to legitimize results of the July 2 polling and spurned the TEPJF verdict that denied that request and decided to recount only nine percent of the 130,477 nationwide voting tables.

The political leader also cited new actions, among them an act scheduled for Monday evening in front of the headquarters of the electoral court, which has until September 6 to validate or not the elections and proclaim the president-elect.
