Central America Solving Organized Crime
Regional governments must solve structural problems that enable organized crime in the area, a text from the Central American Council of Human Rights Attorneys stated Monday in this capital.

"We call for the United States to pay attention to criminal actions carried out by organized groups, which on the fringes of the law, worsen Central America's crisis of violence," pointed out the document.

Signed by the Honduras' Human Rights commissioner and president of the Central American Council, Ramon Custodio, the release stressed that crime, under different modalities, threatens people's stability.

Those bands, Central American attorneys state, take advantages of the socio-economic conditions that favor gangs' proliferation.

The countries affected with this scourge must eliminate repression, solve unemployment, provide opportunities to study and healthy recreation, as well as reject the uncontrolled consumerism.

"Organized crime has become a dangerous threat to the rights of Central American inhabitants to live in a safe atmosphere without violence," they noted.
