Panama Recalls Omar Torrijos Legacy
With several political and cultural activities, Panamanians recall Monday General Omar Torrijos, on the 25th anniversary of his death.Panama Media Eulogize Omar Torrijos

As part of these activities, there will be a photo display on the late Panamanian leader and a cultural gala in his honor.

Last week, important Latin American figures presented works on Torrijos´ ideas and held a teleconference on his life and work.

Addressing a colloquium Sunday, Marti Program Office director Armando Hart said that Torrijos was an undisputed leader and an "irreducible and victorious defender" of his country´s sovereignty.

The late Panamanian leader, pointed out the president of the Jose Marti Cultural Association, was a friend of the Third World peoples in their struggles for the national liberation, as well as of the Cuban Revolution and its people.

Torrijos died in a strange accident in 1981, when the plane in which he was traveling to Coclesito, center of the country, crashed into a hill.
