RACSA To Lower Internet Rates Beginning September
Beginning September, the Radiográfica Costarricense (RACSA) says it will offer high speed internet access for only us$16.95 per month.

The service will be available on a 24/7 connection over a cable modem.

The current lowest cost for cable service by RACSA is us$30 per month. RACSA offer cable television subscribers internet service as well as dial up service on a monthly plan or by pre-paid cards that can be purchased at RACSA and other retail locations.

The drop in price for internet service is to compete with the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) that offers internet service over the telephone lines. ICE announced last month a request to lower the cost of internet service, forcing RACSA to adjust its pricing as well.

ICE, the state monopoly on telecommunications, is parent company of RACSA, as the two compete for internet customers, offering similar services at competitive pricing.

Who knows, maybe one day RACSA and ICE will actually deliver sustained high speed internet. For now, subscribers have to put up with constant drops in speed and connection. At least it will be at a lower price, if that is any consolation.
