State
Institution Heads Ready For the
Change
In a little over a week many
heads of public institutions
like the Instituto Costarricense
Electricidad (ICE), the
Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS),
RECOPE, JAPDEVA, Acueductos y
Alcantarillados (AyA), and INS
will be leaving their post and
going back to their old jobs,
where they will be making a lot
more money than for the last
four years.
At least that is the idea of INS
president, Luis Javier Guier and
RECOPE president, Litleton
Bolton, who will receive
thousands of dollars in
compensation and leave the
public spotlight. Both men, as
many of the others will be back
running private companies.
For Pablo Cob, president of ICE,
the change won't be too drastic,
as he heads back to as general
manager of the Compañía Nacional
de Fuerza y Luz (CNFL), an ICE
company, that provides
electrical service to San José.
Others like Dr. Alberto Sáenz
Pacheco, head of the CCSS, will
go back to his position at the
hospital Nacional de Niños.
A few others are still waiting
word on the future, as the new
government of Oscar Arias, which
will take office on May 8, has
yet to name a replacement.
In all cases, each of the state
institution heads are expected
to receive a substantial
severance pay for their service
that can be as a little as a few
thousand dollars to tens of
thousands, depending on the
institution and the time at the
post.
