Mrs.
World Costa Rica Crowned In
Error
The celebrations and happiness
last only four minutes. That is
when the angel of happiness that
had just crowned Mrs. Costa Rica
Andrea Bermúdez Mrs. of the
World, fell in disgrace and
tears, as organizers corrected
their mistake.
Bermúdez was elected as Mrs
World at St. Petersburg, Russia,
event. However, the judges took
away the crown minutes after the
announcement and gave it to 18
year old, Sofía Arzhakovskaya,
representing Russia.
Bermúdez didn't quite understand
what had just happened to her,
first having the crown placed on
her head and then moments later
taken away. But last night she
told news reporters that she was
calm about the whole thing.
Bermúdez travelled to the cold
climate of Russia on April 13 to
compete with 35 other women. The
finale was Saturday night at the
Oktyabrskaya theatre where she
stook on stage as one of the 10
semi finalists.
"They called me and Mrs. Russia
for the grand finale. And then
the announcer said my name as
the winner", Bermúdez said
recalling the last moments of
the event.
Following the announcement,
David Marmel, president of the
Mrs World, announced the error
and took away the crown. "The
president took away my crown and
placed it on the head of the
other girl", said Bermúdez.
An inquiry is being called by
officials of the Mrs World
Organization to clear up what
really happened.
