Gasoline To Pass ¢600 Colones A
Litre By End of Month
Get ready to spend more on
gasoline. Three, yes, three
increases are headed our way
that will see the price of a
litre of gasoline at the pumps
pass ¢600 colones (us$1.18). Two
increases are at the request of
the state oil refinery while the
third is an automatic adjustment
calculations.
According to Litleton Bolton,
president of the Refinadora
Costarricense de Petroleo (RECEOPE),
the record price of crude oil
that reached us$72 a barrel this
week, is prompting the state
refinery to seek a third in
increase, that will be reflected
at the pumps by months end.
RECOPE requested the Autoridad
Reguladora de Servicios Públicos
(ARESEP) - the government body
that regulates public prices of
products and services like
gasoline - that will push up
price of gasoline.
Following three increases and
one reduction, the current price
for a litre of super gasoline is
¢475 colones, regular ¢453 and
diesel ¢326.
The two increases to be approved
within the coming days - one
requested by RECOPE, the other
the automatic adjustment to
reflect inflation - will see
gasoline prices jump to ¢573
colones per litre of super, ¢549
for regular and ¢371 for diesel.
The third increase, though no
details of the request were
announced, will push the price
of a litre of super over ¢600
colones a litre, said Bolton.
Yesterday, president-elect,
Oscar Arias should worry over
the price of crude oil on world
markets. The president who will
take office on May 8 said
yesterday that his
administration will look to
solutions to the high price of
gasoline, including the
possibility of exploring for oil
in Costa Rica.
Each increase in the price of
gasoline has a domino effect.
