Chile, Argentina to Form Joint Force
An Argentine delegation will visit Santiago this week to create the Joint General Staff of a bi-national force to participate in peace operations, official sources informed.

The measure was one of the points ratified by the governments of Michel Bachelet and Nestor Kirchner during the Chilean president´s March visit to Buenos Aires.

The agreement for a joint peacekeeping force goes back to the administration of former President Ricardo Lagos and brokering of then Defense Minister Jaime Ravinet.

Foreign ministry sources affirm a recent precedent of similar characteristic -the participation of some Chilean sailors and soldiers in the Argentine battalion collaborating in a UN mission in Cyprus.
