Union: No Private Pensions
Chile´s major labor Federation
(CUT, in Spanish) is demanding
Monday that President Michelle
Bachelet´s administration put an
end to the private pensions
imposed by the 1980
dictatorship.
CUT is the first national
organization to voice its
proposals before a governmental
commission created by Bachelet
to study reforms against the
provisional model, controlled by
six big private companies.
The labor organization has
insisted that social
inequalities result in low
wages, bad working-conditions
plus the lack of a pension
system that leads millions of
people to insecurity and
economic insufficiency.
The Chilean union will also
request the management´s
contribution to every worker´s
account, creation of a
supportive fund to guarantee a
fair pension and gender
equality.
The pension reform is included
in the 36 measures promised for
the statewoman’s government´s
first 100 days in office.
