See Foreign Lands While Earning Course Credits
The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) School of Business continues to help students further their education in foreign lands.

"Students usually say it was the most meaningful experience in their educational career," School of Business Assistant Director Cynthia Peterson said.

The study abroad program is available for Germany, France, England, Mexico, China, The Netherlands, Hungary and Costa Rica.

Students pay SIUE tuition and register for SIUE courses, but complete requirements abroad, the School of Business Office of International Programs said in a press release.

Short-term travel trips are offered for students lasting approximately one to two weeks. Students can travel to Juarez, Mexico during Christmas break, Germany during spring break, or China, Hungary, or Toluca, Mexico in summer.

Service-learning trips are offered in Mexico and Costa Rica during July.

Requirements are a 2.75 grade point average and the program is preferential toward juniors, said Peterson. She quickly added that students can go at anytime, but they try to make it count for credit.

Most majors accept the credit, but business, mass communications and foreign language majors tend to benefit the most, she said.

"We want it to help them graduate," Peterson said.

Kevin Coppinger, an accounting senior, ventured to China last May.

"It was a completely different world. ... Since I got back, I have been telling everyone to study abroad," Coppinger said.
