No Political Propaganda Starting Next Month? Maybe, If Political Parties All Agree
A move to eliminate political propaganda in the media, beginning October, is picking up strength, with most of the presidential candidates giving their approval.

Presidenciale candidates Walter Muñoz, of the Partido Integración Nacional (PIN); Ottón Solís, of the Acción Ciudadana (PAC), and José Manuel Echandi, of the Unión Nacional (PUN), all reaffirmed their support, following Antonio Álvarez, of the Unión para el Cambio (UPC), who gave his support last week.

The candidates gave their full support to the plan at a meeting of Transparencia Internacional. Óscar Arias did not attend the meeting, but his campaign office assured that he too supports the move.

"We will be happy to eliminate the propaganda, but I do not think the move will help to deepen the ideas, this will certainly put a noose around the neck of an emerging party", Arias told the local Spanish daily newspaper Diario Extra.

"How will the small party get their ideas out. For the PLN that is not a problem, but if that is what they want, so be it, though the media will not like that very much." Added Arias.

José Miguel Villalobos of the Acción Democrática Nacionalista (ADN), Ricardo Toledo (PUSC) and Otto Guevara of the Movimiento Libertario, did not support the move.
