Man Sentenced to 12 Years For Abuse of Young Boys
With the pretext of offering them a coca-cola, American Jeremy James Gavlas, will spend the next 12 years in a Costa Rican prison, found guilty of corruption and sexual abuse of minors. James is to also compensate each one of his six victims ¢1 million colones.

James left a good job in the United States where he worked with the Federal courts to come to Costa Rica to hang out with little boys, meeting them in a Zapote (east of San José) park, offering them a coke while watching gay pornographic movies.

Court testimony showed that James would target boys between the ages of 7 and 13. He would ask the boys if he could photograph them in their soccer uniforms, and later would invite them back to his apartment.

The court in handing out its decision told James "this type of crime is punished all over the world, especially in the United States, where you were well aware of that having worked in the courts."

The judges heard testimony of how James would touch the young boys, tickling them, pulling down their undershorts and touching their penises.

The court also heard expert testimony how the abuse affected the young boy's academic performance and changes in personal attitudes.
