President Compares Arias to
Simpons "Mr. Burns"
It is unusual for a sitting
president to enter the fray of
the elections, however,
president Abel Pacheco couldn't
resist, making public his
thoughts on Partido Liberación
Nacional presidential candidate,
Oscar Arias, comparing him to
"Mr. Burns" of the cartoon show
The Simpsons.
Of course, the president made
his allusions without mentioning
the name Arias, when he answered
questions by reporters at the
weekly press conference on the
recent criticism of the Nobel
Peace Prize winner (Arias was
awarded the prize in 1987) that
the current government has no
direction and was compared to
the Mexican comic, now dead,
Cantiflas.
"I am not offended that I am compared to Cantiflas, I am a
Godson of Cantiflas, as he was a
Godfather of a generation of
doctors that I belong to.
Cantiflas was a great man, a
great actor and defended the
poor and injustices in his films", said
Pacheco.
The comments by the president
were met with laughter by the
reporters at Casa Presidencial,
not laughing at the man, but
that he give such an unexpected
response.
Mr Burns in the Simpson comedy
is corrupt and eccentric,
changing the rules of the game
to his convenience.
Mr. Arias was not available for
comment.
