80 Years For Rape of Canadian
Woman
The Tribubal Penal de Puntarenas
sentenced a taxi driver to 80
years - yes, 80 years - in
prison for eight counts of
aggravated rape of a Canadian
woman who was visiting Playa
Jacó.
Judges, Juan Carlos Mejía,
Ronald Nicolás and Salvador
Barrantes, handed down the
sentenced to the man identified
only by his last name Durán
Reyes.
The rape occurred one year ago
when the woman contracted
taxista Durán Reyes to take her
to the bus station in San José,
a 2 hour ride. However, the
Durán Reyes took a detour into
an abandoned field along the
route and repeatedly raped the
woman.
Durán Reyes was arrested a week
later after a police manhunt and
has spent the last year in
preventive detention, having to
spend another 79 years of life
behind bars.
