Beware of Stray Cows on the
Road!
A cow loose on the road in the
area of La Fortuna de San Carlos
(north of San José) cost the
Gustavo Solano Monestel, 19
years of age, his life when he
was on his way home, hitting the
cow on the road with his
motorcycle.
Low visibility and the darkness
of night added to the unusual
accident Sunday night. Medical
examiner said the young man's
body collided so severe with the
cow that caused major internal
injuries that contributed to his
death.
Loose cows on roads in rural
areas is common, as some cattle
owners don't take the care of
their animals too seriously.
Cows have also been known to
stray onto major roads like the
Interamericana.
Red Cross workers dispatched to
the scene of the accident found
Solano spread out on the roadway
with multiple injuries. He was
immediately transferred to the
local medical centre, where he
died shortly after arrival.
