World Mayors to Meet in Havana
About 400 mayors, vice mayors, councilors and local government officials from more than twenty countries will take part in the 13th City Councils Cooperation and Solidarity Conference with Havana, November 15.

A record high is expected in the number of nations represented at the Convention Center meeting, where they are likely to express their rejection of the US economic war and pro-hegemony policies, according to local authorities.

Participants will also demand justice for the Cuban Five anti-terrorist fighters held in US prisons.

Most of these leading figures are already in the Cuban capital to visit the Latin American School of Medicine, the first activity of the meeting, as part of the celebrations for the 486th anniversary of the foundation of the Villa of San Cristobal de La Habana.

They will also visit places of social and economic interest and take part in solemn sessions of People's Power Assemblies (legislatures) in all 15 municipalities of the capital.

Governors of New Delhi, India; Kingston, Jamaica; Teheran, Iran; Windhoek, Namibia, and Georgetown, Guyana, will be among participants.

In 1990 Havana joined the Inter-Municipality Organization of Ibero-American Cities, founded in 1938, which sponsors such forum.
