Cuba Hopes for Victory over
US Blockade at UN
Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe
Perez Roque said Tuesday´s vote
at the 60th UN General Assembly
against the US on the 45-year
blockade of his country will be
a sound and smashing victory for
the Cubans.
We expect this 14th consecutive
vote will give a clear and
determined sign in favor of the
rights of the Cuban people with
support for Cuba´s Resolution on
the Need to End the Economic,
Financial and Commercial
Blockade the US imposes on Cuba.
Perez Roque arrived this morning
in New York to submit this
resolution to the UN.
The resolution condemns the US
hostile policy aimed at
suffocating the Cuban Revolution
and so, he explained, the voting
will also defend observance of
international laws and
multilateralism.
We expect an overwhelming
victory, he said.
On the first day of his 48-hour
visit to the UN, Perez Roque met
with the 60th General Assembly
President, Swedish Ambassador
Jean Eliasson. The meeting,
which the Cuban minister called
useful and friendly, referred to
Tuesday"s vote of Cuba"s
anti-blockade resolution.
We also spoke of the UN reforms,
the development of this process,
and Cuba"s views on this
particular issue, added the
Cuban official.
