Recovered Havana Ready to
Celebrate Anniversary
The Cuban capital, christened
San Cristobal de la Habana, is
celebrating on November 16 the
486th anniversary of its
foundation, and will celebrate
it already recovered from the
damages of Hurricane Wilma,
local authorities assert.
Recovery works show a speedy
advance according to the
country's possibility. Injured
people due to damages left by
the strong waves pushing in over
the North coasts of the Cuban
western have started to be
compensated.
Celebrations will be encouraged
by the rapid recovery of
affected areas and the
government's attention to
families injured.
The Cuban capital witnessed the
strongest waves pushing in its
history and despite 1,835 houses
and 487 institutions were
damaged, no human death was
reported.
The appropriate self-evacuation
of 130,717 people and the
discipline of other 14,082 taken
to safe places fitted out by the
government were main reasons to
preserve human lives.
Six days after the passage of
Wilma, vital services returned
to normality thanks to the
immediate and organized
mobilization of people, workers
and authorities in favor of the
affected families and areas.
Similarly, Cubans work on the
sanitation of parks and popular
areas to celebrate Havana's
anniversary totally recovered
after Wilma.
