Brazilian Armed Forces Seizes 10
Tons of Drugs
The Brazilian Armed Forces
seized almost 10 tons of drugs
during an operation on the 1,230
km (764.3 miles) border with
Paraguay and Bolivia Monday,
informed Brazil"s Agencia Estado.
The source said the operation,
called Operation Jauru, was
carried out on Saturday and
Sunday, and ended up with the
seizure of 9,800 kg. of
marijuana, 119kg of cocaine, 5kg
of crack and 4,300 blocks of
hashish.
West Military Command
information quoted by Agencia
Estado said the actions were
successful, and will conclude on
June 5.
4,500 members of the Brazilian
Armed Forces, the Finance
Ministry and public security
organizations took part in the
operations, with 55 surveillance
posts created in border zones,
and brigades patrolling
neighbouring roads and rivers on
the ground, while others
patrolled from helicopters.
The largest proportion of drugs
detected in Brazil enters the
country from Paraguay and
Bolivia, through the Brazilian
states of Mato Grosso and Mato
Grosso do Sul, destined equally
for the US and Europe, as for
distribution in Brazil.
