Paraguayan Congress for Equality in MERCOSUR
Paraguay´s Senate declared in favor of the creation of a egalitarian parliament for the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR).

Congress president Miguel Carrizosa stated that Asuncion supports the project, though it demands the future legislative body or PARLASUR abstain from granting privileges.

Still inconclusive, the declaration issued by the upper house specifies that the composition of PARLASUR would involve the proportional representation of each full member of the sub-regional block (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay).

As it was reported, the emphasis responds to reports about a Brazilian plan to propose an unequal integration, based on the number of inhabitants.

It is expected the declaration by President Nicanor Duarte´s administration, according to the pro tempore MERCOSUR presidency, to be presented in writing in a forum of the Joint Parliamentary Commission, Friday in Montevideo .

The last steps to create the PARLASUR would be its confirmation by the President of the four country members, June 20 in this city, to be ratified on December 2006, and to start functioning a year later.
