Journalist's Killers Formally Charged
More than a year after her assassination, six people were formally charged yesterday with the murder of Ivannia Mora in December of 2003.

One of the accused is Eugenio Millot, Mora's employer at the financial magazine she worked at as reporter.

According to the Poder Judicial press office, Millot who is a Uruguayan national and five Colombian nationals are charged with the capital murder and conspiracy.

One of the men charged was detained in Panama and returned to Costa Rica.

The charges were presented by the Fiscalia (prosecutor's office) before the Juzgado Penal del Segundo Circuito in San José who will hold a preliminary hearing to determine if the case will go to trial or not.

Ivannia was gunned down in the early evening of December 23, when a man riding a motorcycle open fire on Ivannia as she sat in her vehicle in traffic in San José. Two assailants on a motorcycle shot her at close range and fled. She died shortly afterwards on the way to hospital.

A colleague of Ivannia who was a passenger in the car at the time escaped unhurt and told police that there was no attempt at robbery. Ivannia was targeted because of her work as a reporter, who wrote for a number of publications and had recently been working on a re-launch of the magazine Summa.
