Rainstorms kill 24 in Colombia
Rainstorms that swept Colombia since early April have killed 24 people, injured 34 and affected more than 50,000 others, Director of the National Red Cross Society Carlos Ivan Marquez said Wednesday.

According to official figures, intense rains have hit 18 of the32 departments in Colombia, destroying 570 houses and seriously damaging some 5,300 others.

Marquez said the material losses caused by each rain season are incalculable and he recommended that those living in risk zones be prepared for evacuation.

He also warned that the current rain season will last for four more weeks.
