Colombian presidential election
scheduled for next May
The next presidential election
of Colombia will take place on
May 28, 2006, the country's
electoral authorities announced
Friday.
If none of the candidates win
the first round, a run-off will
happen on June 16, 2006, the
authorities said.
The new president will be
elected along with a vice
president for the 2006-2010
period.
President Alvaro Uribe, whose
current term ends on Aug. 7,
2006,is expected to run for
re-election, local media
reported.
