Venezuela, an Axis of
Participative Democracy, Says US
Expert
US researcher James Early has
called Venezuela an axis of
participative democracy, with
very strong implications for the
whole continent.
Early is heading a US delegation
to an International Meeting of
Afrodescendants held in Caracas
on Friday.
About 240 national delegates and
representatives from Brazil,
Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Panama,
Peru and Uruguay are attending
the gathering.
The US expert, who is also
director of cultural policy at
Washington National Museum, told
Prensa Latina that the meeting
reflects the work that movements
of people of African descent
have done for many years with
the aim of reaching democratic
commitments.
The meeting is being held on the
sidelines of the 210th
anniversary of an uprising for
the abolition of slavery led by
Jose Leonardo Chirinos in
Venezuela, on May 10, 1795.
