Derbez Destroyed for Being a US
Candidate, Says Fidel Castro
US support shattered aspirations
of Mexican Foreign Minister Luis
Ernesto Derbez to become
Secretary General of the
Organization of American
States(OAS), said Cuban leader
Fidel Castro.
In a special appearance on
Wednesday night before
representatives from political
and mass organizations of the
Island, Fidel Castro said Derbez
was doomed from the moment he
became a US-supported candidate.
Derbez wouldn't win, anyway,
said the Cuban leader, referring
to Washington's setback as it
could not impose its candidate
on the regional body.
He reiterated OAS was a ministry
of colonies, with a shameless
record of betrayal and
complicity with the US.
It was all a great sham worthy
of this organization, he said
when commenting on the voting
process behind the scenes that
led to Chilean Jose Miguel
Insulza's victory.
The Cuban leader also pointed
that the US Assistant Secretary
of State Roger Noriega deserves
a raspberry, in response to
remarks by the White House
official that OAS must deal with
the issue of democracy in Cuba.
Fidel Castro also made fun of
the latest attacks from US
Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice against Cuba and Venezuela,
the two countries where the
largest number of people
gathered on May Day.
¿Look who's talking about
democracy, the ones who imposed
dictatorships on the peoples in
Latin America, the ones who
created infamous governments,
murderers and thieves,¿ he said
in reply to Rice's remarks.
