Cuba accuses US of human rights violations at
Guantanamo
The ill-treatment Washington gives to its
prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, is a total transgression of the most
basic human rights, as those individuals do not even face charges and
are not subject to a due process, Cuba said on Tuesday.
Cuba's parliament speaker Ricardo Alarcon condemned the US military
personnel for mistreatment and torture of the prisoners kept at
Guantanamo Bay.
Talking about Washington's recent move to promote its anti-Cuba
resolution before the Human Rights Commission in Geneva, Alarcon said it
would be justified to analyze and condemn the human rights violations at
Guantanamo Bay instead.
The official was unveiling two new chapters of a book, "Cuba and the
Human Rights." One chapter tells about US policy toward Cuba under the
administration of George W. Bush and the other about the worsening
economic, commercial and financial situation in Cuba as a result of
Washington's blockade against the country for 40 years.
The US has always been seeking to put an end to the Cuban Revolution,
and the so-called US Plan for Assistance to a Free Cuba is a "true
declaration of war," Alarcon said.
