FBI To Train Costa Rican Police
on Sex Crimes
A total of 45 Costa Rican police
agents, prosecutors and judges,
along with a number of officials
of the Policía Nacional de El
Salvador, will receive training
by the United States F.B.I.
investigating cases related to
the commercial sex trade.
During the 15 day training
session, members of the F.B.I.
will impart their knowledge and
experience with 15 agents from
the Ministerio de Seguridad
Pública, 25 officials of the
Poder Judicial and 5 officies of
the Policía Nacional Civil de El
Salvador.
Paul Chaves, head of the
Dirección de Investigaciones
Especializadas (DIE), of the
Ministerio de Seguridad Pública,
says this is the third training
session that Costa Rican
officials will be attending on
the matters of sex crimes. The
first session was in 2004.
Chaves said that since the
creation of the Unidad Contra la
Explotación Sexual Comercial (UCES)
in 1999, a total of 74 persons
have been detained with relation
to sex crimes, of which 56 are
Costa Ricans and 18 foreigners.
