Man Shoots His Wife Before
Killing Self
In less than two weeks, a
conflict between spouses has
left two more dead, this time in
Taras de San Nicolás de Cartago.
Around 3pm yesterday, 52 year
old Zenón Ramírez Badilla,
decided to end the life of his
44 year old wife, Mayela Blanco
Jiménez, before committing
suicide. The couple had been
married for years and had three
children, three girls aged 12,
21 and 22.
A witness told police that the
couple was riding in a vehicle
when it stopped and a discussion
ensued and the woman tried to
get out the car. Victor Orozco,
an eye witness to the death of
the woman, said he was in his
office when he saw the car stop
and heard several gunshots and a
woman standing at a bus stop
screaming.
Police sources say the woman was
hit by two bullets, one in the
chest and the other in the
shoulder, as she tried to get
out of the car. After being
shot, the woman was left laying
on the street, agonizing, while
the man sped off.
Red Cross workers dispatched to
the scene found the woman had
died minutes after being shot
and there was nothing they could
do to revive her.
Police acted quickly to locate
the man who had sped off in a
Toyota, sending out a call to
all patrols. Guillermo Araya, a
commander with the Fuerza
Publica in Cartago, said they
called off the manhunt with the
report of locating a vehicle
similar to the one speeding from
the scene, apparently with a
dead man inside.
The man, now sought by police,
for killing the woman had taken
his own life with a single
gunshot. Police theorize that
when the man realized what had
occurred decided end his own
life was well.
Authorities did not know the
reason for the occurrence.
Last week, a man shot his
estranged wife and her younger
sister in Liberia, after the
couple had separated. The man
was found earlier this week dead
of an apparent suicide.
Days earlier, another man in San
José shot his two year old son
distraught after his wife had
left him. The boy died in
hospital days later.
