Posada Carriles Denied Trial
Transfer to Miami
Proceedings against the
allegedly illegal entry into the
US of Luis Posada Carriles will
continue in El Paso, Texas,
according to the decision of an
immigration judge.
The lawyer of the terrorist of
Cuban origin had asked that the
legal proceeding be transferred
to Miami, Florida, where
Cuban-American ultra right
groups have a strong hand.
Posada is wanted for extradition
to Venezuela, from where he was
allowed to escape in 1985 when
he was being tried for the
bombing of a Cuban airliner with
73 persons on board that crashed
off the coast of Barbados.
However, he is currently being
tried for the misdemeanor of
illegal entry to the United
States.
According to US congress
members, this puts the White
House in an embarassing
situation, by not acting against
a terrorist after proclaiming
itself champion of fighting this
scourge.
Judge William Lee Abbott will
decide this Friday if Posada
Carriles will remain arrested or
allowed to be released on bail.
