Bennett Still Alive in Costa
Rica Doubles
Olivia Bennett is still alive in
doubles after going out in
singles yesterday in the
International Tennis Federation
(ITF) Junior Tournament in Costa
Rica.
Playing in the under-18
category, the United
States-based 14-year-old
combined with her conqueror in
singles, Anne Christine Voicu,
trounced Nicole Arosemena and
Elizabeth Tapia 6/1 6/1.
Voicu, from Canada, had earlier
beaten Bennett 6-1, 6-2 after
the former national under-18
champ had received a bye in the
first round.
Jerome Ward, one of the
country's leading juniors last
season who is now based in the
United States, went out in the
first round of both singles and
doubles.
Juan Miguel Gonzales accounted
for him 6/3 6/2 and then
Gonzalez and Cal Mario beat Ward
and Sebastian Castro of Costa
Rica.
Bennett played in this
tournament last year when she
was one of the stars of the
event. She was the youngest
under-18 quarter-finalist at age
13 and went on to capture the
doubles crown.
