Arias Fails in Washington
The 1986 Nobel Peace Award and
Ex-President of Costa Rica Dr.
Oscar Arias was warmly welcomed
to Washington but received cold
responses to his lobbying for
the U.S.-Central America Free
Trade Agreement (CAFTA).
He met with House Democrat
leader Nancy Pelosy in an effort
to convince her about not
setting a strict line against
the agreement, but she hinted
that 90% of the Democrats are
going to vote against the CAFTA.
In a meeting with John Kerry,
Arias did not find a better
atmosphere.
Meanwhile, at home, Arias
continues leading in the
popularity polls, leading with
the support of 36% of the
respondents.
He is far ahead of the second
best place, Otton Solis, who got
13% of the intention of votes
for the February 2006
presidential election.
