Costa Rica Requests Fair Trial
for Cuban Five
The Solidarity with Cuba and
Pro-Cuban Five committees
demanded in Alajuela, Costa
Rica, a fair trial for five
Cubans imprisoned in United
States for trying to thwart
terrorist attacks against the
island.
The two organizations sponsored
a solidarity event in which they
handed over posters to US
tourists with information in
English on the manipulated trial
and human rights violations
against them and their
relatives, Granma newspaper
reported Friday.
This initiative emerged during a
solidarity meeting with the
Cuban Five held on February 26
in San José, on occasion of the
visit of Adriana Perez,
Elizabeth Palmeiro and Magali
Llort, spouses of Gerardo
Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, and
mother of Fernando Gonzalez,
respectively.
Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo
Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero,
Rene Gonzalez and Ramon Labañino,
known as the Cuban Five in
ongoing international campaigns
for their release, are serving
harsh and inhuman sentences
ranging from 15 years to double
life imprisonment in the US
after a rigged and biased trial
in Miami.
Arrested in 1998 in Miami, their
real crime consisted of
gathering information about
terrorist plots by
counterrevolutionary
organizations in Miami, Florida,
with an aim to prevent the
deaths of Cuban and even United
States citizens.
