MERCOSUR Summit to Welcome Eight
Presidents
As many as eight presidents will
attend the summit of the South
Common Market (MERCOSUR) to be
held here June 18-20, the bloc´s
press office affirmed Sunday.
The meeting will be attended by
the presidents of Argentina,
Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay,
Chile, Bolivia, Peru, and
Ecuador. The heads of state of
Mexico and Colombia, who had
been invited, will missed the
gathering.
In the meeting, Paraguay will
transfer MERCOSUR´s temporary
chairmanship to Uruguay.
Issues linked to free trade
among the bloc´s members, ways
to speed up commercial links,
and the creation of a data base
to coordinate legal actions
against kidnappers and terrorist
organizations will be analyzed
in the summit.
Referring to the last issue,
Paraguay´s Security Vice
Minister Mario Agustin Sapriza
told the press the information
exchange is vital to face
"emerging crimes in the region."
In many cases, he added, the
responsibles of "kidnappings in
Argentina or Brazil are the same
who then do it in Paraguay."
