US apologizes for mistreating Colombian top diplomat
The US government apologized to Colombian Foreign Minister Carolina Barco on Saturday for mistreating her at a US airport.

In a letter to Barco, the US government said it will investigate the incident.

Colombia's ambassador to Washington Luis A. Moreno said there have been other cases of mistreatment against diplomatic personnel of different countries trying to enter the United States.

Moreno said the US government should take into account such incidents and "not to repeat them."

Barco, who has US nationality, was searched in a rude way by security personnel Wednesday along a line of migrants at Fort Lauderdale Airport of Florida, where she arrived on a regular flight.

In view of such treatment, Barco presented her diplomatic passport and identified herself as Colombia's foreign minister, but the security personnel ignored that condition and continued the search in a way she considered as "excessive."
