Import Ban of Older Cars
Scrapped
The government has put the
brakes on the plan to limit the
import of cars older than 7
years.
The new rule that would have
banned the importation of
vehicles older than 7 years and
reduced the tax on hybrids was
to have been announced next week
on June 5, Environment day.
Pressure from various interest
groups, including vehicle
importers, forced the government
to shelve the plan for now.
The government still has plans
to move ahead with the proposal,
announcing a commission to
analyze the situation.
