5 killed in shoot-out in south Peru
Five people were killed in a shoot-out between police and militants who stormed a police station and a bank in south Peru, police said Wednesday.

Peruvian National Police (PNP) Director General (general) Marco Miyashiro said four of the five dead were militants whom he termed "criminals," while the other was a local citizen.

In the end, police captured six attackers, including one woman, he added.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in the city of Azangaro, 1,400 km southeast of the capital of Lima, when the armed robbers in military uniform attacked a police station and grabbed FAL assault-rifles.

They then robbed a nearby branch of the National Bank. A guard was wounded and some 300,000 US dollars were stolen during the raid.

A fierce clash ensued after the militants escaped in two vehicles to the Bolivian border. Four militants were killed and the other six were captured in the crossfire with the police.
