Fiscalía Wants MAR Back in
Jail
The Fiscalia (prosecutor's
office) want former president
Miguel Angel Rodríguez back in
jail. Miguel Angel Rodríguez
just wants to complete his hour
arrest. And judge Magaly
Hernández is in the middle to
resolve the dispute.
The former president was again
in court yesterday (Friday),
attending a private hearing at
the Tribunales de Goicoechea in
the latest round between the
Ministerio Pública and the
former president.
The Fiscalia claims that
Rodríguez has attempted to
obstruct the investigation
against him and the charges
presented by two members of the
board of directors of the
Instituto Nacional de Seguros
(INS) against José Antonio Lobo.
On the other hand, Rodríguez's
defense claims that the
Ministerio Público is
negotiating with Lobo for an
abbreviated process and that
Lobo has changed his version of
the story of his involvement in
the ICE-Alcatel scandal that led
to the arrest of Rodríguez last
October 15.
Lobo fingered the former
president as receiving a portion
of the payoff that the French
telecommunications firm paid for
the "prize" of being awarded the
multimillion dollar contract to
install the current GSM cellular
telephone network.
Lobo told investigators that his
friend and former boss (Lobo was
a minister in the Rodríguez
administration) made the
decision who was to get what of
the payoff. Lobo has been under
house arrest since last year.
Rodríguez's defense lawyer says
the former president just wants
to remain under house arrest and
is looking forward to his day in
court, where he will be
vindicated as set free of all
the accusations.
