1.3 tons of cocaine seized in
June in Peru
Peruvian police seized 1,313.55
kilograms of cocaine in
anti-drug operations in June,
police officials said on Sunday.
Police also smashed 88
drug-processing factories and
confiscated 33 tons of chemical
medicines to be used to produce
drugs, said Eduardo Montero,
chief of the Peruvian Anti-Drug
Police Bureau.
A number of suspected
drug-traffickers were also
captured in the operations, said
Montero.
Peruvian police have captured
some eight tons of cocaine since
the beginning of this year.
Peru, located in the notorious
drug-producing "Silver
Triangle"of South America,
yields some 300 tons of cocaine
every year and is the world's
second biggest cocaine-producer
following Colombia.
