Venezuelan Police Officers Involved in Crime Arrested
The Venezuelan government announced Friday the arrest of 26 police officials and replacement of several chiefs, in relation to the death of three students.

Venezuelan Interior and Justice Minister Jesse Chacon said an investigation to detect and punish the responsible people occurred Tuesday at Parroquia Macarao, in Caracas.

Chacon said that several police officers tried to stop the car in which the six students were travelling, but the students thought it was a hold up, so they did not stop.

The police officers started shooting at the car, and when the car finally stopped, they shot the driver, and beat and murdered the other two.

The arrested people are from the Scientific division, Penal and Crime Investigations, the Military Intelligence Direction Office, and the Caracas police.

The leadership of the Fifth Republic Movement (MVR) repudiated the murder.

"This is a democracy defending human rights and condemning every bloody deed where innocent people lose their lives," said MVR deputy Dario Vivas to reporters.

Vivas advocated for a review of police training, and highlighted the important role that courts and the Prosecutor Office play in determining responsibility for crimes.
