Hondurans Die in Illegal
Trips
The Honduran Foreign Ministry
confirmed Friday that 157
nationals have died and 76
injured so far this year trying
to illegally reach the US.
Ministry director for consular
affairs, Francisco Martinez,
noted that Hondurans involved in
illegal trips heading to the US
face multiple risks. "Of the 76
injured, 24 were crippled trying
to get on trains in Mexico," he
exemplified.
Every hour, nine Hondurans leave
the country to go to the US
illegally S via Guatemala and
México, but only one percent
reaches the final destination,
he noted.
Martinez explained there are
800,000 Honduran nationals
living in the US, of which
460,000 have legal residence and
85,000 benefit from a temporary
residence law.
