"Gordo" Winner Still A No
Show
It's now day 5 of the "gordo
navideño" and the first prize of
¢350 million colones is still to
be claimed. The Junta de
Protección Social (JPS)
confirmed that the holder of the
"entero" - ticket number 03,
seriers 691, sold by "chancera"
(lottery ticket seller) Maria
castillo Meoño, in Cartago, has
to still come forward.
Luis Polinaris, general manager
of the JPS, believes the ticket
is being held by one person and
is possibly waiting out the time
to let the lottery frenzy pass
before claiming the prize.
Polinaris speculates that there
is also the possibility that the
winner many not have looked at
his or her numbers and/or may be
out of the country.
In the past, holders of big
prize winning tickets have
waited until the last days to
claim their prizes. The winners
of the lottery have 60 days
(February 16, 2006) to claim
their prizes.
Winning tickets can be cashed in
at the JPS offices or at any
branch of the Banco de Costa
Rica (BCR). If the exchange is
made in the Gran Área
Metropolitana (GAM) - San José -
prize winners can withdraw their
prize money the day following
the exchange, outside the GAM,
it takes one day extra.
