Gasoline Price Drop Approved;
New Prices To Change in January
Gasoline prices are going down
again. The Autoridad Reguladora
de Servicios Públicos (Aresep)
yesterday approved a reduction
of ¢19 colones for a litre of
super gasoline, ¢18 colones for
regular and ¢21 colones for
diesel.
The new prices, won't come into
effect in time for Christmas but
will be at the pump in January,
due to the fact that the
Imprenta Nacional that prints
the official government
newspaper, La Gaceta, goes on
holiday vacation after today and
won't return until the new year.
Changes to public prices and
services must first be published
in La Gaceta for it to be
effective. The printing is
required within 5 working days
of any change. Normally that
would come within a week of
approvals.
The new prices will be set at
¢422 for super, down from the
current price of ¢441 and way
down from the high of ¢504
several months ago.
The reduction was requested by
the Refinería Costarricense de
Petróleo (Recope), the state
monopoly on oil refinery and
gasoline distribution.
